Practice Tips for VBODA Success
- →Purchase your etude book immediately — VBODA does not provide copies at auditions
- →Get your scale requirements from your band director early and practice scales from memory
- →Isolate difficult passages in your etude — practice the 30 seconds before and after a hard spot for 5 minutes at a time
- →Record yourself weekly — playback reveals intonation and rhythm issues you might miss during practice
- →Practice scales in random order from memory — this builds true mastery, not just muscle memory
- →Warm up with long tones, then scales, then your etude — save your fresh embouchure for the etude
- →Master your weaker passages first when mentally fresh — end practice with your best sections for confidence
- →Practice sight-reading regularly — grab new concert band music and run through it
- →Get adequate sleep the week of your audition — tone production depends on rest
