Texas TMEA Region System
Students from Austin ISD compete in the TMEA regional audition system as part of their pathway to All-State auditions. The district has campuses in one or more TMEA regions: Region IV.
To audition for TMEA All-State, you must first be a member of your school's TMEA Region band program. Your band director will submit your audition entry to the regional organization.
District Selection
Your school holds auditions to build the highest-level band ensemble. Not all students who audition will be placed in the top ensemble.
TMEA Region Participation
Selected students then participate in TMEA Region auditions as part of the All-State pathway. This happens at the region level, separate from district auditions.
TMEA All-State
Top performers from each TMEA region advance to the state All-State clinic held in February in San Antonio.
Typical Audition Format for Austin ISD
Austin ISD band auditions typically include these elements:
Scales
Perform major and minor scales as assigned by your director. Judges evaluate tone quality, intonation, and technical precision.

Perform assigned etudes or excerpts from the audition books. This demonstrates your ability to follow musical directions.
Sight-Reading
You'll receive unfamiliar material to read and perform. This assesses your ability to tackle new music confidently.
