Audition Materials
Alabama AMEA auditions focus on fundamentals: tone quality, rhythm accuracy, technique, and sight-reading fluency. Audition materials are released in August with specific etudes for each instrument.
Prescribed Etude
AMEA publishes one prescribed etude per instrument for All-State auditions. Master this thoroughly — it's the foundation of your audition.
Major Scales & Selected Minor Scales
All major scales are required. Selected minor scales are also expected. Judges evaluate tone, consistency, rhythm accuracy, and technical control.
Sight-Reading
Judges provide new material during your audition. Demonstrate fluent, accurate reading and interpretation of unfamiliar passages.
Download audition materials from the AMEA website or contact your band director for the latest etude and scale requirements.
