What the organization posted
Major scales and the chromatic scale are required but no longer have to be memorized - unmarked scale sheets are handed to the student in the audition room, with time limits that vary by instrument as printed on the sheet. Prepared etudes come from GMEA-posted etude folders, one set per division (Middle School Winds, Concert Band Winds, Symphonic Band Winds, plus separate Middle School / Concert / Symphonic percussion folders). The district round uses only the bracketed portions of the etudes; the Final Audition requires the full etudes plus one sight-reading exercise. Percussion instructions specify closed snare rolls and single-stroke timpani rolls. Auditions are performed live in an audition room, not submitted as recordings.

Etude PDFs are hosted in Google Drive folders linked from the GMEA page. GMEA runs district-level auditions that feed the state finals; district audition dates are set by each GMEA district and are not on this page, so students are told to check with their band director. Event dates and venue confirmed on the companion page gmea.org/asb-information (March 4-6, 2027, The Classic Center, Athens; 2028 listed as March 2-4). All-State Jazz Ensemble is a separate GMEA posting with its own materials.
