- Registration and payment close Friday, October 9, 2026. Recorded auditions for the northern, central and southern sites are due Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at 5:00 pm. In-person site auditions run from late October through mid-November 2026 (for example the central site on Saturday, November 14, 2026 and the southern site on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, 2026). Acceptances are announced Friday, December 11, 2026, with acceptance forms due December 18, 2026. The festival is May 13-15, 2027 at the University of Maine, Orono.

What the organization posted
Auditions are offered both as recorded submissions through MMEA's virtual audition portal and as in-person auditions at regional sites. The 2026-27 season is Year C of MMEA's four-year rotation. Woodwind and brass players perform two major scales plus the chromatic scale - Ab major and G major for Year C - written pitch for transposing instruments rather than concert pitch, and all scales must be memorized. They then play the universal lyrical etude for Year C, Scheherezade arranged by Shun, and the universal Technical Etude (C). Piccolo players add the trio from Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. Percussionists audition on all three of snare drum, timpani and xylophone, performing the 16 measures of the technical etude marked START and STOP on each instrument, plus rudiments: a long closed roll from ppp to FFF back to ppp on snare and a long roll from fp to FFF to ppp on timpani, each roughly 15 to 20 seconds. No sight-reading is listed for the wind and percussion audition.

The requirements document is MMEA's own, linked from mainemmea.org/auditions/, updated May 2026 and explicitly headed '2026-2027 Updates', but it also carries an 'All pages are under construction-please check back frequently' banner, and MMEA's own BOC All-State Audition Info page still reads '2025-26' - so re-check before students commit to preparation. Maine organizes auditions by northern, central and southern sites rather than districts, and the site dates on MMEA's printable 2026-27 calendar include some rows whose stated weekdays do not match 2026, so confirm the specific site date with the host. Maine also runs a separate Jazz All-State posting with its own requirements and an earlier fall timeline (registration closing late September 2026, recorded auditions due mid-October 2026, festival January 14-16, 2027).
