- Recorded auditions were uploaded through OpusEvent between May 1, 2026 and June 12, 2026 (window now closed, no late submissions). The All-State Music Festival runs October 14-16, 2026 at Montana State University in Bozeman, with on-site placement auditions beginning 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

What the organization posted
Recorded, unedited audition uploaded to OpusEvent using Set A materials, four uploads per band instrument. Upload 1 is a chromatic scale over a specified range in legato-tongued quarter notes at MM = 132 ascending and descending (for example B-flat clarinet E3 to G6, flute C4 to C7, saxophone B-flat3 to F6). Uploads 2 through 4 are three prepared etudes from a named method book with printed metronome markings: flute from Voxman Selected Studies for Flute, oboe and tuba from the Rubank Advanced Method, clarinet from Rubank Advanced Method for Clarinet Vol. 1, bassoon from Weissenborn 50 Studies Op. 8, trumpet and trombone from Arban's, saxophone from Voxman Selected Studies and Ferling, percussion from Audition Etudes by Garwood Whaley. The whole audition must be a single session of no more than 20 minutes (percussion excepted), unedited, with no student or school identification on the recording. Wrong materials, wrong keys, or wrong starting pitches are automatic elimination. Accepted band students play an on-site placement audition on portions of the all-state repertoire.
Notes
Montana's all-state is run by the state high school activities association (MHSA), not the state MEA. The 68-page Set A packet is linked from the MHSA Festivals page (mhsa.org/music-festivals) and includes the printed audition music. The audition submission window for this festival already closed June 12, 2026 - the packet is still the correct reference for a student preparing, and the next cycle's set rotates. No jazz ensemble is part of the MHSA All-State Festival.
