- All-State Jazz Band audition Monday, May 3, 2027 at 5:00 PM. Applications due Monday, April 19, 2027 at 11:59 PM, with a late deadline of Monday, April 26, 2027 (additional $10 fee). The qualifying Region Jazz Band auditions are held live and in person on Monday, March 15, 2027, with a director meeting at 4:00 PM and student auditions beginning at 4:30 PM.

What the organization posted
The All-State Jazz Band page states that scale, solo, and improvisation requirements are identical to the Region Jazz Band requirements. NJAJE posts per-instrument scale sheets at two levels, Junior (grades 7-9) and Senior (grades 9-12), and supplies solo etudes it commissioned rather than drawing from a commercial method book. Improvisation is prepared over a blues in concert B-flat, for which NJAJE provides a practice accompaniment file. Auditions are live and in person, not recorded submissions. Applicants come from the Senior High Region Bands plus other qualified applicants in grades 9 through 11.

Reading rehearsal February 8, 2027 with February 9, 2027 as snow date at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. Weekend rehearsals in Atlantic City February 18-20, 2027. Concerts February 20, 2027 at the Atlantic City Convention Center and February 21, 2027 at 3:00 PM at NJPAC.

What the organization posted
Woodwind and brass candidates prepare all fifteen major scales, seven sharps through seven flats plus C major. Diatonic scales are played in even octaves within the instrument's published range, memorized, articulated to a printed pattern, at a minimum of quarter note = 120. The chromatic scale is played slurred in even sixteenth notes across even octaves within the published range. A required solo is drawn from the 2026-2027 All-State Band Solo List (revised July 2026); the edition listed under the publisher is mandatory, no substitute solos are permitted, and no cadenzas are asked. Percussionists follow separately posted requirements covering snare rudiments, traps, timpani, and keyboard percussion. Piano and harp have their own posted requirements, with piano scales at quarter note = 120. Eligibility requires membership in an affiliated Region Honors Band or Orchestra during the 2025-2026 school year, checked before auditions.
