Why a clarinetist built Virtunity

I picked up clarinet at 11, teaching myself fingering charts and listening to recordings. No private teacher. No structured feedback. Just me, a practice room, and the hope that I was getting better.
Crossing the register break nearly broke me. My embouchure would collapse. I'd get high notes but lose control in the clarion. I spent months fixing that one problem without knowing where the pitch was actually breaking down—was it embouchure? Air speed? Fingering inconsistency?
Eventually I made it to the Marine Corps Band. But when I started teaching, I saw the same struggle in my own students. They'd practice scales for hours, cross the break, and still not understand what was actually wrong.
