- The Opus audition portal opened January 1, 2026 and submissions were due at noon on February 24, 2026 (MMEA recommended uploading by the evening of February 23, 2026). Selected students attend the All-State Camp July 28 through August 1, 2026 and perform at All-State February 19-20, 2027. This window has closed.

What the organization posted
Recorded video auditions only. Woodwind and brass candidates record the entire assigned scale page in one continuous take; percussionists have no scale requirement and instead record snare and mallet etudes. French horn players may choose between two scale sets. Etudes come from ETUDE SET 1 for 2026: woodwind and brass etudes are obtained from auditionsolos.com under the MMEA_2026 list, and percussion etudes are posted in a Google Drive folder linked from the page. Where printed music offers ending choices, students must use the ending specified on auditionsolos.com for their instrument. Each component is a separate video file, each recorded in one continuous take, and no file may exceed 250 MB. The page does not list a sight-reading component. Rubrics, practice videos and MacPhail Center tutorials are linked as preparation resources.
Notes
Timing caveat: this posting is the audition cycle that already ran (January 1 to February 24, 2026) and it seats the 2026-27 All-State ensembles, so a student reading it in August 2026 is looking at a closed window. MMEA runs separate audition pages with their own requirements for strings/orchestra and for jazz. The page states no date for when the next cycle's materials will post.
