Percussion prepare Peters Advanced Snare Drum Studies no. 17, Gottlieb Masterworks for Mallets (Allegro from Sonata III), Ford Marimba: Technique Through Music (Birchbrook), and Orfaly Studies in Copper etude 2. Students advance from Region auditions to Area auditions to All-State placement; TMEA also provides free instructional videos of the non-ATSSB etudes with synchronized notation and slow-down playback.
Notes
Small-school bands audition through a separate organization, ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands), which posts its own etude list and fields its own All-State Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble; that is a separate posting not covered here. The state audition material pages list etudes only and do not publish a state scale list or state sight-reading requirement. Area audition date confirmed at https://www.tmea.org/band/all-state/area/.
