- Recorded/asynchronous auditions (Senior Commercial Band) are uploaded Wednesday, October 28 through Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with upload links sent the morning of October 28, 2026. In-person auditions: Senior Band on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Severna Park High School; Junior Band and Senior Jazz Band on Saturday, November 21, 2026 (Junior Band at Severna Park High School; Jazz at Clear Spring, Perry Hall, Northern and Parkside High Schools). Rosters released early December 2026.

What the organization posted
Read from MMEA's official 2026-27 Senior Band (grades 10-12) materials document: the student performs one major scale drawn by the judges from C, G, D, A, E, F, B-flat, E-flat and A-flat, plus a chromatic scale of one octave (two octaves for flute and B-flat clarinet) in eighth-note triplets at quarter note = 72, starting on a note of the student's choice. Scales are memorized. Two prepared etudes per instrument, most drawn from Rubank Selected Studies with ISBN, page number and tempo named per instrument (flute: Etude No. 12 in D minor and Capriccio in D major; B-flat clarinet: D minor and Allegro; trumpet: D major and Largo Cantabile). Percussionists perform snare rudiments, keyboard percussion scales, timpani rolls and auxiliary exercises drawn from Advanced Etudes for Snare Drum, The Solo Timpanist and Bach for Marimba. Sight-reading is required and the music is handed out at the audition. Junior Band and Senior Jazz Band each have their own separate 2026-27 materials documents with their own requirements.

MMEA also runs All State Senior and Junior Orchestras, not covered on this page. MMEA states the 2026-27 audition schedule differs from prior years, and applications must be initiated by the student's music teacher and signed by the principal.
