Eligibility Requirements
To audition for Maryland MMEA-MD All-State, you must meet all of the following:
- ✓Be a student in grades 9-12 in a Maryland high school
- ✓Be a member of your school's band program
- ✓Have your band director submit your audition entry
- ✓Your school must be a member of MMEA-MD
- ✓Meet all academic eligibility requirements set by your school district
Audition Materials
Maryland MMEA-MD uses designated audition books and etudes for each instrument. Audition books are released in August with specific etudes and requirements.
Designated Audition Books
MMEA-MD publishes official audition books containing prescribed etudes and excerpts for each instrument. These are the materials you'll perform at both district and All-State auditions.
Chromatic & Major Scales
Chromatic scale and all 12 major scales are required. Scales are weighted heavily in the audition — expect significant emphasis on tone quality and consistency.
Sight-Reading
Judges provide new material during your audition. Demonstrate confident, accurate reading of unfamiliar passages.
