What to work on this week

Use this plan for your next round, a solo, or next season. Not taking another audition? Choose music with your director and use the same steps.

5 minutes - Read before playing. Find the required passage in the official packet. Mark its start and end. Count through a rhythm that needs attention.
10 minutes - Work on one small chunk. Choose a few notes or a short phrase. Play slowly enough to follow the notes and rhythm.
10 minutes - Connect two chunks. Practice the next small section. Then join the sections, paying attention to the connection.
5 minutes - Record and listen. Record the joined passage. Follow the score while listening. Write down one thing to revisit.

Season: 2026-27
Audition window: High school auditions December 4, 2026 at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston and December 5, 2026 at the Canady Creative Arts Center in Morgantown. Application postmark deadline October 10, 2026; late postmark deadline October 17, 2026, after which no applications are accepted. No onsite registration. Check-in March 4-6, 2027; performance March 6, 2027 in North Hall at the Charleston Civic Center.
Instruments: all band instruments (winds and percussion)

What the organization posted

The 26-27 audition-music page is posted. Wind players prepare two named etudes, major scales through four sharps and four flats plus chromatic, and a student-selected solo with a copy for the judge. Bb clarinet uses Rose 32 Etudes Nos. 3 and 20; flute uses Andersen Op. 41 No. 5 and Op. 33 No. 19. Percussion sight-reading is on mallets only. Directors submit applications; the fee is $20 per student per instrument, or $30 after October 10, 2026. No applications are accepted after October 17, 2026 and there is no onsite registration.

How it fits each part of this audition
