What the organization posted
Recorded, audio-only submission through the Acceptd platform (MP3, OGG, M4A, WMA, WAV, AAC, or FLAC accepted). Band and orchestra-winds applicants record two assigned etudes from a named book for their instrument plus a solo from the OMEA Class A or B list, with piano accompaniment strongly recommended. Named etude sources include Voxman Selected Studies (Rubank) for flute (p. 8, p. 50), oboe (p. 10, p. 38), clarinet (p. 6, p. 42), saxophone (p. 15, p. 41), trumpet (p. 23, p. 24), and trombone/euphonium (p. 22, p. 43); Weissenborn Method for Bassoon 50 Studies #9 and #28; Rhoads-arranged Weissenborn Advanced Studies #6 and #23 for bass clarinet; Pottag Preparatory Melodies to Solo Work #26, #66, and #93 for horn; Grigoriev/Hawes 50 Etudes #18 and #29 for bass trombone; Blazhevich 70 Studies for BBb Tuba Vol. 1 #9 and #24. Percussionists record all three etudes (Mitchell Peters: Fundamental Method for Mallets Reading Study #1, Advanced Snare Drum Studies Etude #3, Fundamental Method for Timpani Etude No. 57) plus a keyboard-percussion solo. No scales are required of winds or percussion (strings record two scales) and there is no sight-reading. Jazz applicants record a chromatic scale up and down for range and tone, then play-along heads on Sack of Woe (Aebersold Vol. 13) and No Smokin' In Here (Aebersold Vol. 114), with two improvised choruses required for solo chairs; rhythm section players comp, walk, or play time on I Remember Grant and Clear as a Bell, and bass and drums also submit a swing chart recorded with their home ensemble.
Notes
Eligibility is grades 9-12 for 2026-27 and current membership in the corresponding school ensemble; $20 application fee to Acceptd. The PDF also covers All-State Choir (excluded here) and Orchestra strings. OMEA runs a separate Region Orchestra audition with its own materials document and its own Acceptd portal, linked from the same hub page (https://www.omea-ohio.org/all-state_ensembles_region_orc.php). The PDF warns that etude and performance requirements changed for 2027. Because the 2027 window closed May 31, 2026, students should watch for the 2028 materials, which the timeline pattern puts around March 1, 2027.
