What the current page describes
The page describes the standing process rather than 2026-27 materials: each student prepares an announced etude and a series of scales and sight-reads, in a recorded audition lasting about ten minutes. Each audition is submitted under an identification number only, with no reference to student or school, so judging is blind. Roughly 2,500 students audition each year for about 400 seats across five ensembles. Registration runs through MSBOA's online audition portal. The specific 2026-27 etudes, excerpts and scale lists are not posted.
Notes
As of August 23, 2026 the newest audition-materials announcement on msboa.org is "2025-2026 All-State Audition Etudes, Excerpts and Information" (article 2179), and no 2026-2027 equivalent has been published. The site states no date for when 2026-27 materials will post; check the page again in the fall. A Middle School String Orchestra is also selected but is strings only and is not covered on this page.
